When the year 2024 began, Peruvian freediver Gonzalo Cortés (also known as Chaski in the world of freediving) set a personal goal and for his country, to represent Peru in the World Depth Championships… and he did so.

It was not a simple task, since living in Gold Coast, Australia since 2019, the task was doubly complex, carrying out their training and sports preparation to achieve the necessary level that would allow them to measure themselves and compete in the World Championships in which they would participate. . the best deep divers in the world, in addition to the difficulty of obtaining financial resources for their assistance (as experienced by the majority of underwater athletes and especially Latin Americans).

However, Gonzalo kept going, and after having participated during the previous months in various championships in Asia and Oceania, where he had already set several national records, he was able to attend the AIDA depth world championships in France in September and the CMAS in Greece in October, where he obtained important results and all the national depth apnea records for his country, one of his main achievements being the establishment of the absolute National Records in the 4 depth modalities, recognized by the Peruvian Sports Federation of Underwater Activities (FEDEPASA) during the World Championship of the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS).

Gonzalo recorded 4 successful dives, reaching the following marks and positions during the event:
Constant Weight without Fins: 55 meters (12th in the world) and 56 meters in AIDA
Constant Weight with Bifins: 81 meters (11th in the world)
Constant Weight: 80 meters (18th in the world)
Free immersion: 80 meters (11th in the world)
Also standing out as the best freediver of the American continent among more than 40 male athletes registered in each event.
At the end of the 2024 year and sports season, Gonzalo will dedicate himself more fully to his work, not only teaching at his school OceanSense Freediving in Australia but also doing onlinen coaching and deep frenzel and mouth-fill equalization workshops, as well as his preparation for events in 2025.
